ELEMENT DIVIDER IN GALOIS FIELD

This appts. for digital audio disc error correction, which does not have either a logarithm buffer or antilogarithm buffer, has two sets of linear shift registers connected to detector circuits. The appts. for dividing one element (alpha i) of a Galois field GF(2 power M) by another element includes a first set of linear shift registers one of which receives data representing (alpha j) and the others of which receive the same data through multiplier circuits. One of a second set of linear shift registers receives data representing (alpha i) while the others receive the same data through multiplier circuits. 2-input gate circuits are each connected at one input to the outputs of the second set of registers and at the other input to the outputs of the detector circuits.
