Rubber compsns. contg. furazan oxide(s) and transition metal salts

Process for improving properties of uncured rubber formulations contg. furazan oxides comprises: (a) preparing a mixt. comprising (i) uncured polymer rubber(s) contg. an unsatd. carbon chain, (ii) furazan oxides of partial formula (I) where C atoms are part of a fused aromatic ring; (iii) an odour reducing amt. of transition metal salt(s); and (iv) reinforcing filler(s). (b) Mechanically compounding the mixt. at a temp. of upto 200 deg.C. Pref. the process is conducted in the absence of vulcanising agents. - Also claimed are: (1) products obtd. by the above process; (2) a filled vulcanisate obtd. by vulcanising (1); (3) a tyre obtd. from (2); and (4) a process for reducing the rolling resistance of tyres by preparing at least the tread of the tyres from (2).
