PURPOSE:To increase registerable data per unit medium, and to execute easily a registering work by reading an original of plural pages by once, registering a read data as one file of a fundamental constitution of a file, and giving index information at every one page of the original. CONSTITUTION:A book registering mode, a size of an original and a position for diving the original are set by an operating part of a keyboard 31 or an original reader 2. The original which has been read by the reader 2 is developed on a RAM34 by having a continuous address as a serial data. In order to divide a page, an (n) address of the head address in which the second page begins is divided by a CPU32, and thereafter, index information for calling separately the data of the first page and the second page is registered in an image file 4. Subsequently, the data of the first page and the second page on the RAM are registered in the image file 4 as continuous image information, and also as the same file. In this way, one page each can be called separately and directly, and also the number of registerable sheets per unit recording medium is improved.
