The system comprises an air cleaner (1) having a housing in the form of a round cylinder a bottom (2) of which accommodates an outlet port (3) and a hole (4) communicating with the exhaust manifold (5). The side surface of the air cleaner (1) has an inlet port (8). The plane in which the outlet port (3), the axis (d-d) of the housing and the hole (4) lie is perpendicular to the plane passing through the center (C) of the inlet port (8) and the axis (d-d) of the housing, the centers of the hole (4) and outlet port (3) being arranged on opposite sides of the second said plane. The system reduces the noise emitted by the engine exhaust system and the noise generated while feeding secondary air to the engine exhaust manifold to reduce the toxicity of exhaust fumes.
