PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high corrosion resistance and traveling with small friction and high durability especially at high temp. and humidity by forming a top coat film composed of the plasma- polymerized film of a prescribed thickness consisting of specified components and a coating film contg. an antioxidant formed on the plasma-polymerized film on a thin magnetic metallic film. CONSTITUTION:A top coat film is formed on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film formed on a support to obtain a magnetic recording medium. At this time, the top coat film is composed of the plasma-polymerized film as the 1st layer and a coating film as the 2nd layer. The plasma-polymerized film is a thin film contg. carbon and hydrogen in 1-6 atomic ratio, and the thickness of the plasma-polymerized film is 10-40Angstrom , preferably 15-30Angstrom . A magnetic recording medium having high corrosion resistance and high traveling durability especially at high temp. and humidity is obtd.
