PURPOSE:To inhibit the stripping and the blocking of a magnetic recording layer and to improve the reliability by forming a protective layer contg. a water soluble resin and a zirconium compound as principal components on the recording layer. CONSTITUTION:When a heat sensitive recording layer and a magnetic recording layer are formed on a support to obtain a heat sensitive magnetic recording material, a protective layer contg. a water soluble resin and a zirconium compound as principal components is formed on the magnetic recording layer. The surface of the protective layer is made strong and repels water by the combination of the water soluble resin with the zirconium compound. The protective layer prevents water and org. solvents from entering the magnetic recording layer, so the stripping and blocking of the magnetic recording layer are inhibited. The amount of the protective layer stuck is 0.5-1g/m<2> (expressed in terms of dry solid matter), and the preferred amount of the zirconium compound added is 2-30wt% of the amount of the water soluble resin. |
