PURPOSE:To relieve the load of operation of a switch changing over the automatic answering mode and the home stay mode and to prevent a fault of automatic recording due to the changeover switch left unoperated by designing the titled set that the automatic answering mode is set automatically when a prescribed time is elapsed after the reproduction of an outgoing message is intermitted when the reproduction of the outgoing message is intermitted. CONSTITUTION:Figure shows a tape format of a tape 1 on which plural messages are recorded. An inter-block and a cue signal recording part are formed respectively for 0.5sec from a point N3 of the tape 1 passing through a leader tape. When a stop button is depressed on the way of reproduction of the outgoing message (OGM), the tape is stopped and the automatic answering mode is selected automatically after a prescribed time is elapsed (e.g., 5sec). Then the program search of the OGM is applied. The program search of the OGM is applied to a location of the cue signal and when the telephone set does not confirm and reproduce the OGM, the reproduction is continued. Then an OGM end position N6 is stored. After the confirmation of the OGM end position N6, the tape is rewound again to apply program search of the OGM and the tape is stopped at the location of the cue signal. The incoming standby state is attained afterward.
