PURPOSE:To execute the color printing with the aid of the line buffer of small capacity by reading image data from the line buffer in a data processing part based on attribution information from a data control register. CONSTITUTION:When printed data is transmitted to an input part 15, a processing part 16 etches the printed data, and inputs it as the image data to the line buffer 25 while said part 16 is storing the attribution information to the data control register 26. When the processing part 16 is activated, it takes out the image data from the line buffer and the attribution information from the data control register 26, transmits them to an output part 19, and drives a printing head 3 and a color ribbon 2 in accordance with contents of the data control register. Printing is executed from a bright color, that is, yellow, magenta and cyan, in this order. The color printing of one line L is executed from the image data taken out of one line buffer 25.
