PURPOSE:To make it possible to realize a stable pattern recognition which is not affected by a pattern position deviation, pattern rotation and size variation, etc. by regarding a code row and a standard code row as multi-dimensional vector and normalizing them. CONSTITUTION:A memory writing circuit 101 reads any area specified beforehand in an input original through an inputting device 100 to write it in a main memory 102, and then a preprocessing circuit 103 carries out segmenting a character area and binarizing. Moreover, a primary- and secondary-feature extracting circuit 102 traces a contour and extracts contour points, as well as secondary features from code rows depending on its coding and necessity. A non-linear matching circuit 105 calculates differences between the features and respective standard pattern of input patterns and each circuit is connected on a pipeline, resulting in high-speed recognition. Thus it becomes possible to realize the pattern recognition device that has a simple configuration and high-speed recognition function.
