PURPOSE:To easily replace an ink ribbon, by a method wherein an ink ribbon is shifted to a position corresponding to a recording operating position or to a higher position by a ribbon-shifting mechanism in accordance with a detection output generated on opening or closing a cover. CONSTITUTION:When a hood 1 is opened, the opening is detected by a switch 4, and a solenoid 11 is driven to lift up a shift arm 10, whereby the ink ribbon 8 is shifted up from a rest position indicated by solid lines to an operative position indicated by two-dotted lines 12. Accordingly, since the ink ribbon 8 is automatically shifted up to the operative position when the hood 1 is opened for replacement of the ribbon, an operation of detaching the ribbon 8 from a guide 9 and an operation of fitting a new ribbon cassette 7 and engaging an ink ribbon 8 to the guide 9 can be performed extremely easily. |
