PURPOSE:To surely enhance the stop control of a stopping medium by detecting a level difference signal, and controlling a motor for driving a recording medium based on the level difference signal to stop and and control the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A reproducing signal 10 is supplied to an adder 13 through an LPF 11. With respect to the output of the circuit 13, two types of difference signals 14 of 1.5fh, 3fh having amplitudes corresponding to a track shifting are obtained. The signals 14 are separated to be level difference signals 22, 23, and inputted to a differential amplifier 24. The circuit 24 obtains a level difference signal 25 and is outputted to one input end of a comparison circuit 26. To the other input end of the circuit 26, the driving pulse 27 of a magnetic tape driving motor is inputted through a delay circuit 27 of a magnetic tape driving motor is inputted through a delay circuit 27 and a saw tooth wave generating circuit 29. The circuit 26 compares a saw tooth wave 31 with the signal 25 and outputs the comparison output 32 in the condition of a large saw tooth wave 31 to a multi-vibrator 33 and a braking pulse 34 having a prescribed time duration in accordance with the high output 32 is outputted to the motor driving circuit 35, and controls the motor to stop and control the magnetic tape.
