Compressor operation for regulating the gas pressure in a compressed gas volume (106) connected to the compressor (101). A brushless AC motor (23) is directly connected to the compressor, which is driven at the same speed as the motor. The pressure in the gas volume (106) is detected by a pressure-sensing device (109) that is connected to a converter (114). The converter simultaneously changes the amplitude and frequency of the driving voltage supplied to the motor (23). This is done in response to pressure changes in the volume (106). The motor is stopped if pressure exceeds a preset maximum value. The pressure in a compressed gas tank (104) is relieved upon motor stop to allow restart without counterpressure on the compressor. The device (44) for regulating the amplitude and frequency of the driving voltage ensures that the current at normal speed and full load is never exceeded upon motor start.<IMAGE> |
