PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a malfunction of outputting the abnormal ity signal of a master CPU to an interlligent I/O from the master CPU and stopping the operation of the intelligent I/O, when the abnormality of the master CPU is generated. CONSTITUTION:When the abnormality is generated in a master CPU10, the abnormal state of the master CPU10 is written in the status area of a data memory 43, and thereafter, a master abnormality detecting signal 90 is made active. When this abnormality signal 90 is detected, a slave CPU41 stops an operation which is being executed at present, outputs information of the data memory 43 to an output device 60, and thereafter, waits for an operator's instruction from aninput device 50. When the operator inputs a command such as 'continuation of processing', 'suspension of processing', etc., an intelligent I/O executes an operation in accordance with its indication and to malfunction is generated.
