PURPOSE:To prevent the titled device previously from operator's misoperation or misphotographing by generating an alarm when a set lighting range can not cover the picture angle of a photographing lens. CONSTITUTION:The flash device is provided with a reading means for reading out a signal corresponding to the focal distance of the photographing lens from a camera, a setting means for manually setting up the lighting range data of a light emitting part, a determining means for determining the lighting range of the light emitting part on the basis of the set-up lighting range data, a means for comparing the set-up lighting range data with a signal outputted from the reading means and generating an alarm if the set-up lighting range can not cover the picture angle of the photographing lens, and a means for comparing the set-up lighting range data with the signal outputted from the reading means and inhibiting the determination that the lighting range can not cover the picture angle of the photographing lens.
