PURPOSE:To suppress the unnecessary operation of an air conditioner by a method wherein the set time is counted and a microprocessor brings the operation of the air conditioner to stop if no next operation of a key switch is performed after the elapse of the set predetermined time since the operation of the key switch or if the stop operation is forgotten to be performed. CONSTITUTION:The operation of an air conditioner is started by pressing an operation-stop switch 3. After that, the operation is performed by setting desired set values on a group of key switches 2. At this time, every operation of a key on the group of key switches 2 causes a timer to reset and at the same time the count is started. If no next operation of the key is performed after the elapse of a certain period of time since the operation of the key, the timer brings the operation of the air conditioner to stop at the time when the timing period is up. If the stop of the operation of the air conditioner is forgotten to be performed, the operation of the air conditioner is also similarly brought to stop after a certain period of time.
