PURPOSE:To record and reproduce a sound signal together with a video signal by providing a means which compresses and records the sound signal corresponding to the video signal with time and a reproducing means which reproduces the sound signal compressed and recorded with time. CONSTITUTION:The sound signal of, for example, five seconds from a microphone 26, etc., is passed through an amplifier 27 and compressed by a time-base compressing circuit 28 to the 1/60sec recording time of one field of a video head 24. This compressed sound signal is frequency-modulated by a frequency modulator 29 and then supplied to an audio head 30, which records the signal on a magnetic disk 25. The audio track formed on the magnetic disk 25 is detected by the audio head 30 in reproduction and its detection signal is inputted to a time-base expanding circuit 33 through an amplifier 31 and a frequency modulator and demodulator 32. The sound signal compressed to 1/60sec is expanded to the sound signal of five seconds. This restored signal is outputted as the sound signal through an amplifier 34. Thus, the sound is outputted during video reproduction.
