PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of hydrogen gas by forming the negative electrode black mix using an active material made of active metal, the electrolytic solution of a caustic alkaline aqueous solution, and either specific phosphine or a phosphine oxide compound as the essential components. CONSTITUTION:The negative electrode black mix is created by using a negative electrode active material made of active metal such as zinc, an electrolytic solution made of caustic soda aqueous solution and such, phosphine represented by expression I in which R<1> to R<3> are hydrogen or an organic group with the number of carbons 1 to 24, and at least one type of the phosphine oxide components represented by expression II as the essential components. Then, an alkaline storage battery is formed by combining the positive electrode black mix such as manganese dioxide. As a result, since phosphine or phosphine oxide compound functions as the anticorrosives of the negative electrode active material, the generation of hydrogen gas can sharply be reduced without using mercury or using it exceedingly a bit. |
