PURPOSE:To obtain a submarine optical fiber cable having an excellent characteristic to tension and bending force by using modified polyolefin at least part of which is grafted by vinyl trialkoxysilane as a sheath material. CONSTITUTION:A pressure resistant pipe is a metallic sheath such as copper pipe, iron pipe, aluminum pipe or alloy pipe and signifies a pressure-resistant outside layer pipe 3b. The optical fiber cable is preferably of the construction having the pipe 3a on the outside of an optical fiber-core assemblage 1. The sheath 4 may be made into the two layers consisting of an insulator and sheath and the modified polyolefin at least part of which is grafted by vinyl trialkoxysilane is required to be used for the sheath material. Middle- and low-pressure PE, high-pressure PE, copolymer of ethylene and alpha-olefin of 3-10C or the mixture composed thereof is exemplified as the polyolefin. Vinyl tris(beta- methoxyethoxy)silane, vinyl triethoxysilane, etc. are exemplified as the vinyl trialkoxysilane.
