PURPOSE:To attain display or print output of a graphic form including smearing in a short time by using an output of a toggle circuit whose output is inverted by a read signal of the 2nd picture memory to select either a read signal of the 1st picture memory or an output signal of a pattern generator. CONSTITUTION:The 1st picture memory 6 storing a line drawing (b) as binary data at each picture element, the 2nd picture memory 7 storing a line drawing (c) representing the profile of a smeared region as binary data at each picture element and converters 8-10 converting data at, e.g., 16 picture elements read in parallel from a pattern generator 3 and picture memories 6, 7 into serial data and outputting the result, are provided. Further, a JK flip-flop 11 used as a toggle circuit whose output is inverted by the read signal obtained through the read of the line drawing (c) stored in the picture memory 7 by raster scanning, and a selection circuit 12 selecting either the read signal of the picture memory 6 obtained via the converter 9 or an output signal of the pattern generator 3 obtained via the converter 8 depending on the output signal of the JK flip-flop 11, are provided.
