PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of curls of a recording medium by forming soft magnetic films in contact with a supporting body and having different film thickness on both surfaces of the filmy supporting body, laminating further a soft magnetic film thereon, and forming a vertical magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:A 'Permalloy(R)' film 12 is firstly formed by a target 91 on one surface of a filmy supporting body 11 of a high molecular material such as polyimide with a cylindrical can 72 set at 20 deg.C. Then a 'Permalloy(R)' film 13 is formed by a target 93 on the other surface with a can 73 set at the same temp. Subsequently, the film is reversed, and Co-Cr films 15 and 14 are respectively formed by targets 94 and 92 with a can 73 set at 60 deg.C and a can 72 at the same temp. The first magnetic films 12 and 13 are formed in this way at <=30 deg.C, the second magnetic films 14 and 15 are formed at >=60 deg.C by vapor deposition or sputtering, and the thickness of the soft magnetic film 13 is made thinner than that of the magnetic film 12. Consequently, a double-face stratified vertical magnetic recording medium provided with the vertical magnetic films 16 and 17 on both surfaces, wherein any curls are not generated, and having the same reproducing output on both surfaces is obtained.
