PURPOSE:To perform the coating of the electrostatic powder having an excellent coated film by burying a plate-shaped electrode into a plate-shaped insulator, providing the space in which the silent discharge is caused and providing exposably a wire-shaped electrode on the surface of the insulator. CONSTITUTION:A plate-shaped electrode 1 is buried into a plate-shaped insulator 2 and the wire-shaped electrodes 3 are exposably provided on the surface of the plate-shaped insulator 2. One end of an AC power source 6 is connected with the wire-shaped electrodes 3 and the other end is connected with the plate- shaped electrode 1 and also grounded with a lead wire 8 via a DC power source 7. A plane silent discharge electrode S is parallel opposed to the material 10 to be coated and separated by providing the space 18. By such a way, since the electric power line in the coating space 18 is made to the equielectric field which is directed to the material 10 to be coated from the plane silent discharge electrode, a uniform and excellent coated film having no pinhole and surface roughening can be obtained.
