PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of the titled apparatus for screening a paper-manufacturing raw material and to dispense with pulsation countermeasures by combining a rotor having a protrusion on the surface with a screen cylinder wherein the inlet corner part of the slit opening is chamfered. CONSTITUTION:A rotor drum 24 which is concentric with the cylindrical surface of a screen cylinder 1 is used as a cleaner for cleaning a screen, and a projecting part 25 is provided to generate agitation and an entrained turning flow of a paper material along with the rotation. The inlet corner part of the slit opening of the screen cylinder 1 is chamfered to cause stripping by using the entrained turning flow, and a strongly agitated part is produced at the inlet opening of the slit with low power consumption. Consequently, strong agitation due to the entrained turning flow of the paper material and the microscopic agitation in the agitated chamber 30 can be efficiently realized, the power consumption is reduced and the pulsation countermeasure can be dispensed with.
