PURPOSE:To obtain the titled hollow yarn membrane cartridge for external pressure type filtration stably structured and having excellent filtration performance and cleaning effect by closing one end of the bundle of hollow yarns, opening the other end, fixing the bundle to an outer cylinder by adhesion, and providing a through-hole leading to the outside of the outer cylinder through the adhesive fixing part of the opened end. CONSTITUTION:The upper and the lower end of plural hollow yarns 2 are fixed respectively by the upper adhesive fixing part 6 and the lower adhesive fixing part 7, and the yarns are fixed in an outer cylinder 3. The upper end of the hollow yarn 2 is opened and the lower end is closed. A through-hole 9 leading from the outside to the space between hollow yarns is bored through the lower adhesive fixing 7. A plurality of hollow yarn membrane cartridges 1 thus formed are suspended in a filter vessel. When a contaminant layer is formed during filtration on the outer surface of the membrane of the hollow yarn 2, cleaning air is introduced from a diffuser at the lower part in the filter vessel and introduced effectively into the outer cylinder 3 by utilizing the sealing effect from the through-hole 9 of the cartridge 1 to a skirt part 10. The contaminant layer is removed by the gas and liq. mixture of the introduced air and the liq. in the outer cylinder.
