PURPOSE:A polyester mainly composed of ethylene terephthalate units is combined with microfine particles of a specific particle size and a higher fatty monocarboxylic acid ester and the composition is melt-extruded and heat-treated to give the titled fiber of good color tone, soft and velvety touch and high abrasion resistance. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of polyester mainly composed of ethylene terephthalate repeating units are combined with 0.005-2.0pts.wt. of microfine particles of 0.05-3mu average particle size such as calcium carbonate particles and 0.1-10.0 pts.wt. of a compound mainly containing a 34-65C higher fatty monocarboxylic acid ester such as hexyl montanate, then they are melt-extruded into fiber and heat-set at a temperature satisfying the equation: 170<=T<=Tm-5( deg.C) (where T is heat-treatment temperature; Tm is the melting point of the polyester) for 0.1sec-30min to give the objective fiber.
