PURPOSE:Melt-extruded polyarylene sulfide multifilaments are treated with a composition containing a specific lubricant and surfactants, then drawn, heat- set to give the titled filaments which are suitable for use in insulation, because of its high drawing ratio and high strength. CONSTITUTION:Polyarylene sulfide multifilaments, preferably filaments from a poly-p-phenylene sulfide-poly-m-phenylene sulfide block copolymer, are treated with a composition of (A) 10-90wt% of at least one lubricant selected from (i) an ester from a higher fatty acid, polybasic fatty acid, aromatic carboxylic acid or sulfur-containing fatty acid and a higher alcohol or polyhydric alcohol and (ii) a mineral oil, preferably machine oil and (B) 10-90wt% of a surfactant, preferably ethylene oxide adduct to castor oil or its aqueous emulsion of more than 10wt% concentration, then drawn and heat-set to give the objective filaments.
