The appts. for cutting planks, panels etc. longitudinally, has a work-supporting surface below which the circular saw travels, mounted on a carriage, which is pulled by e.g. a belt. The carriage carries two circular saws, each with its own driving motor, so that one saw makes a cut, then the other saw makes a second cut in the return direction, the work being stepped sideways accordingly, or replaced by another panel. During a cut, one saw is swung upwards into its cutting position, the other being retracted by respective piston and cylinder devices. On the return cut, these positions are reversed, the two saws being rotated in opposite directions by their motors.
