PURPOSE:To provide a novel epoxy resin having excellent mechanical properties, especially impact-resistance, and composed of a compound having specific structural formula and obtained by reacting a polyhydric alcohol with an epihalohydrin, etc. CONSTITUTION:The novel epoxy resin of formula II can be produced e.g. by reacting the polyhydric alcohol of formula I (R is 2-3C alkylene; R' is 1-4C alkyl; n is 1-8, m1, m2 and m3 are >1; m1+m2+m3<80) with an epihalohydrin such as epichlorohydrin in the presence of an acidic catalyst such as boron trifluoride and converting the product to polyglycidyl ether with a basic compound such as sodium hydroxide.
