PURPOSE:To facilitate engaging work by providing an engaging portion having a line inserting space and a notch connected to the space, and a fixing portion continued from the engaging portion and fixed to a mast base, and putting the free end of the line in the notch to be engaged therewith. CONSTITUTION:At the time of assembling a sailing boat, in case of engaging a downfall line 34 extended from a sail with a cleat 50, first the free end of the line 34 is wrapped round one roller of a line rest 58, turned up, again turned down, and passed between the line rest 58 and a mast base 26, and then inserted in a space 52 of an engaging portion 54. Secondly, the free end of the line 34 is nipped in a notch 66, and the line 34 is clamped in the engaging portion 54. With the thus constructed cleat 50, as the free end of the line 34 passed through an opening 52 of the engaging portion 54 is pulled upward, the line 34 eats deeper into the notch 66. Accordingly, a work for engaging the line 34 is easy, and even if the free end of the line 34 is turned up and fastened with the line 34, the engagement will not be loosed. |
