PURPOSE:To isolate the inside of a heat treating furnace from the open air by arranging several pairs of upper and lower rolls at the inlet and outlet sides of the furnace and spouting atmospheric gas between the rolls. CONSTITUTION:A strip 8 is held between several pairs of upper and lower rolls 6, 7 arranged at the inlet side of the heat treating furnace 1, and it is transferred into the furnace 1 from the inlet 2 through a path 5. Atmospheric gas is spouted into the path 5 from upper and lower pressure accumulating chambers 9, 10 through nozzles 11, 12 so as to prevent the leakage of the atmospheric gas in the furnace 1. The strip 8 heat treated in the furnace 1 is sent out of the furnace 1 from the outlet 3 through a path similar to the path 5.
