PURPOSE:To enable immediate detection of leak, by a method wherein leak is detected based on a difference between an incoming and an outgoing flow rate computed according to actual measurement and an incoming and an outgoing flow rate obtained by simulation. CONSTITUTION:In relation to all the outlets and the inlets of a gas pipe line 1, an incoming flow rate Qin and an outgoing flow rate Qout are hourly measured. By the use of the measured incoming flow rate Qin and outgoing flow rate Qout and an incoming flow rate and an outgoing flow rate obtained by dynamic simulation of the gas pipe line, it is decided to be gas leak when a difference therebetween exceeds a given value.
