METHOD PREVENTION OF SLAY MIXING

The method involves preventing the inclusionof slag in molten steel tapped from a converter. This greatly enhances the yield of tapped steel. An elongated stopper(5) mounted on a water-cooled supporting arm is immersed in the steel in the converter until it is at a predetermined height above the inside opening of a tap hole. Stopper is directed to the opening, irrespective of the tilting of the converter, such that it can maintain the set position while allowing a constant outflow of steel into the hole. Stopper is lowered to close the tap hole when the slag is about to flow out. Turbulent flow is prevented by maintaning of the set position of the stopper.
