FILTER PRESS TYPE ELECTROLYTIC CELL WITH ION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE

PURPOSE:To produce an aq. caustic alkali soln. having a high concn. by connecting a manifold having internally an inside pipe for liquid supply and a cathode chamber by a communicating pipe and providing supply pipes for supplying an electrolyte to cathode chambers and electrolyte circulation passages to the inside of the communicating pipe. CONSTITUTION:The catholyte such as the aq. dilute caustic alkali soln. is introduced through the inside pipe 20 and supply pipe 21 into the manifold 14 and is supplied through the supply pipes 16 into the lower parts of the cathode chambers. The Na ions of the aq. alkali chloride soln. in the anode chambers pass through ion exchange membranes 7 and transfer to the cathode chambers to form a caustic soda liquid. The catholyte thickened by the electrolysis pass through the circulation passages consisting of circular holes 3, 2 and a flow hole 19 and is circulated to the manifold 14. part thereof enters the lower part of the cathode chambers. The catholyte returning to the manifold 14 passed through notches 24 of a partition plate 23 and enters again the pipes 16. Part thereof is taken out of a take-out hole 22 and since the notches 24 are provided to the plate 23 between the pipes 16 and the hole 19, the catholyte flows into the pipe 16 side and again enters the inside of the cathode chambers.
