The system sterilises a continuous stream of a liquid, particularly milk, by applying high intensity ultrasonic waves in the form of pulses having a high instantaneous power and a low average power. The ultrasonic waves are generated by sparks triggered by high voltage spark gaps operating sequentially and distributed along the pipes in such a way as to ensure that each section of liquid is irradiated for a long enough time. The sequential operation is achieved by an electronic generator coupled to booster coils by a step-up transformer whose secondary circuits are arranged in such a way as to produce a phase difference between the sparks.
