The use of extension ladders is always associated with a certain danger as a result of the transition from the standing ladder to the extension ladder and vice versa. The add-on part according to the invention provides a remedy in this respect. It consists of two metal uprights and two adjustable hollow rungs. The uprights have in each case at the top a recess for suspending in a rung of the extension ladder. The transition from the extension part to the standing ladder is thus levelled by the rungs of the add-on part. The transition is hardly noticed. Danger is averted.
