Elastic, tightly fitting, air-impermeable rubber or plastic stocking made to measure (plaster cast) into which a small amount of air is pumped through a rubber valve fitted in the foot arch at each step as a result of the pressure of the foot. This air surrounds the leg in a thin layer, rises upwards starting at the foot and escapes at the thigh. This results in continous compression of the leg from the foot upwards, whereby the varicose veins are pressed in an gentle manner and the blood present therein flows back into the deeper veins, so that virtually normal venous return is restored. This prevents dilatation of existing varicose veins and the formation of new varicose veins, and any tissue damage that may be present due to the venous stasis, such as varicose ulcers or eczemas, is healed. On deterioration, the stocking can be freshly prepared any number of times using the plaster cast of the leg.
