The invention relates to a drainage element, in particular for drawing off water at cable troughs laid in land cuttings. The drainage element consists of an elongated shaped block which in the bottom area has a water-discharge passage (6) running in the longitudinal direction. In the top part (12) it is made of material permeable to water and in the bottom part (13) it is made of material impermeable to water. A multiplicity of such shaped blocks (1) can be assembled to form a drainage system. <IMAGE>
