It is known that the residual product obtained downstream of flue gas desulphurisation plants is a dihydrate. To make a useful product, this must be calcined. To enable this to be carried out in a simple manner, it is proposed according to the invention that the dihydrate taken off from a flue gas desulphurisation plant is transported by means of steam, dried, converted, calcined and then fed to a bunker, from which it is conveyed via transport means or, if appropriate, by means of a further downstream steam ejector device to the transport vehicle. The waste product, treated in this way, from a flue gas desulphurisation plant can be utilised in mining as a dam-building material or consolidation material or as a back-filling mass.
