In an apparatus for filtering gases having a closed container, which is subdivided by a horizontal perforated plate into a bottom part-chamber furnished with a gas inlet and an upper part-chamber furnished with a gas outlet, and tubular or candle-shaped filter elements which are suspended in holes in the perforated plate in a sealed manner and are reinforced by a flange-like thickening at their top end at the perforated plate, in order to ensure a reliable seal even when the filter elements are pivoted with respect to the perforated plate, it is proposed that the flange-like thickening forms a seating surface which lies on the surface of a sphere having the central point above the seating surface and on the perpendicular central axis of the filter element and that the hole in the perforated plate surrounds the filter casing of the filter element connecting beneath the thickening at a distance such that the filter element can be pivoted over a certain angle range and about the sphere central point.
