PURPOSE:To attain the precise and effective control of position and to improve the reliability of a magnetic head by turning an eccentric pin by a fixed angle to shift a head base, estimating the shift state of a head chip according to the shift degree of a magnetic head chip and then turning the eccentric pin for control. CONSTITUTION:A microprocessor 22 gives a command to a pulse motor 20 for revolution by a prescribed angle theta'a after confirming a contact secured between the tip of an eccentric pin 15 and a head base 3. A shift degree Sa of a head chip is measured by a TV camera 6 and a picture processor 24 after the revolution of the motor 20. Then the position information 27 is delivered to the processor 22. The processor 22 calculates the revolving angle theta'b of the motor 20 which is needed for the shift of the chip 2 from the value of the information 27 and a head chip shift curve. The motor 20 is revolved by an angle (theta'b-theta'a) by the processor 22. Then the base 3 is shifted by the revolution of the pin 15 caised by the revolution of the motor 20. Thus the position control is through with a magnetic head.
