PURPOSE:In method to remove mercury in sulfuric acid using a chelating resin, to enable elution of adsorbed mercury, recovery of the chelating resin, and its repeated use, by using the chelating resin having a thiol group as a functional group. CONSTITUTION:For example, a chelating resin obtained by introducing a thiol group into a styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer is used. Namely, sulfuric acid (preferably previously oxidized with hydrogen peroxide, etc.) is brought into contact with a chelating resin, mercury contained in it is adsorbed on the chelating resin and removed. The chelating resin is then brought into contact with >= the same volume hydrochloric acid (concentration is about 18wt%) as the resin at normal temperature -90 deg.C for about 10min-5hr, the adsorbed mercury is eluted from the chelating resin and the resin is recovered. |
