In a roller tape device with a housing, having a viewing window, in the sides of which housing are mounted winding rollers for a tape which can be wound thereon, which are connected to drive elements for drive purposes and can be brought into predetermined positions of rotation via assigned control and regulatory devices, the tape being stretched flat against the viewing window by means of reels which are likewise mounted in the housing on both sides of the viewing window and aligned parallel to the winding rollers, and being capable of being moved over the winding rollers by rewinding and halted in predetermined rewinding positions by means of a text-centre sensor, provision is made for at least one of the reels to be associated with a register member which registers its positions of rotation and is designed as a switching element for the device controlling and regulating the drive elements of the winding rollers.
