PURPOSE:To secure safety by preventing the contact of an alkali metal with air, by hermetically closing a chamber in which an alkali metal combustion testing apparatus was received and sealing said chamber with inert gas. CONSTITUTION:If the alkali metal 7 in an alkali metal combustion testing apparatus 5 is contacted with invaded air, said alkali metal is reacted with air to generate heat and, if said alkali metal is contacted with water penetrated by the deterioration of the material of a cooling part, heat and hydrogen are generated by reaction. Therefore, a chamber 1 is hermetically closed and sealed with inert gas 6 to prevent the contact of the alkali metal with air and water. Further, as a measure when hydrogen is generated, a rupturable plate 2 ruptur ing under definite pressure or more and a heat absorbing material 4 absorbing heat upon melting under definite temp. are mounted to the upper part of the hermetically closed container 1 at the part communicated with a chimney 3. This heat absorbing material 4 immediately extinguishes the fire occurring in the hermetically closed chamber 1 by the melting thereof at the time of abnormality. |
