Process for lowering the energy consumption in indirect combustion processes

The invention relates to a process for utilising opening materials (constituents which can be burnt out) in indirectly heated firing furnaces in structural ceramics and ordinary ceramics. In addition to utilising opening materials (constituents which can be burnt out), the object of the invention is to lower the emission of uncombusted hydrocarbons substantially and to increase the porosity of the products. This object is achieved by maintaining the content of combustible gas constituents at the lower explosive limit by controlled addition of air and thus creating a firing atmosphere of predominantly reducing character.
