The pressure regulating valve in a vehicle brake system comprises a chamber (12) containing a piston (14) which defines inlet (22) and outlet (18) chambers and is biassed into the chamber by a piston rod (30) when in the rest position. The piston contains a valve which stops an internal passage (56) interconnecting the two chambers (18,22) when the piston (14) moves from its rest position. The valve consists of an extension (46) from the housing (10), over which an aperture (38) in the piston locates. When in the rest position, the end of the internal passage opening (54) into the inlet chamber is aligned with radial orifices (62) in the piston. |
