Process for the production of a hollow cylinder by atomising a metal melt and collecting the atomised particles on a mandrel in the form of a coherent solid deposit. In order to avoid the disadvantages arising in known processes, it is proposed that the mandrel, which is only partially provided with a cylindrical external contour, is held stationary and obliquely relative to the atomisation stream during the atomising process, such that the axis of the atomisation stream and the mandrel axis are not parallel, and that the deposit sprayed onto the mandrel is continuously drawn off the mandrel during the spraying in a helical motion in the direction of the mandrel axis. <IMAGE>
