PURPOSE:To obtain a wire rod free from cracks and overslenderness by directly heating a W or Mo wire rod with electric current and drawing it while controlling the drawing temperature quantitatively. CONSTITUTION:A device is constituted of a lubricant coating unit 2, a die 3, an electric terminal 4 such as a pressure pulley, and an AC power source 5, etc. The die 3 is made of a super alloy of ordinary conductivity to have a function of electric terminal in common, and a terminal 4 of the other hand is made of a material of good conductivity such as an electrically conductive ceramics. The pulley 4 and the die 3 are connected to the source 5 to heat a workpiece 1 directly with electric current, and the aimed drawing temperature is obtained by adjusting the voltage of source 5 based on the cross-sectional area of piece 1 and the distance L between the terminals 3, 4. In this way, as the drawing temperature is quantitatively controlled, the fluctuation of drawing temperature is reduced and an excellent wire rod is obtained in high yield.
