PURPOSE:To improve adhesiveness by fusing diffusively a zirconium alloy and hafnium at a specific temp. then cooling quickly the same. CONSTITUTION:The zirconium alloy plate consisting of zircaloy-2, etc. is put on the hafnium rod having >=90% purity and is subjected to extrusion, by which the coated rod of the zirconium alloy is obtd. The coated rod is then subjected to the diffusive fusion in a 850-1,000 deg.C range and further to a force quick cooling treatment. A beta phase exists in the zirconium alloy and the hafnium is diffusively joined in the state of the alpha phase by the above-mentioned method, by which the good adhesiveness is obtd. The quick cooling is executed immediately after the diffusion joining and therefore the corrosion resistance of the zirconium alloy on the surface is improved and the adhesiveness thereof to the hafnium is additionally improved.
