To assay haptens or antigens of low molecular mass, a known quantity of a compound I, derived from the product to be assayed and recognised by the same antibody as the product to be assayed, is introduced into the test medium; a given quantity of antibodies directed towards the product to be assayed and the compound I is introduced; the degree of fluorescence polarisation of the sample thus treated is measured after incubation, and the concentration of the product to be assayed is determined by reference to standards.
