PURPOSE:To produce a lower hydrocarbon composed mainly of ethylene and propylene from CO and H2, by using a metal oxide catalyst supporting rhodium, an alkali metal and manganese or scandium. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a lower hydrocarbon composed mainly of ethylene and propylene from CO and H2, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst supporting rhodium, an alkali metal, and manganese or scandium. The catalyst can be prepared by reacting (A) a polyol (e.g. ethylene glycol), (B) a rhodium compound (preferably chloride), an alkali metal compound (e.g. halogenic acid salt) and an Mn compound or a scandium compound (e.g. chloride) and (C) a metal alkoxide (e.g. alkoxide of Si, Al, etc.) at 40-80 deg.C, hydrolyzing the reaction mixture, and drying and heat-treating the obtained gel. |
