METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To prevent the breakout in the stage of starting casting and to prevent sweat-out by disposing a heat insulating orifice plate between a pouring basin and cooled mold and moving the mold along the orifice plate according to the progression of casting to decrease the mold length. CONSTITUTION:A motor 12 is run and a driving gear 10 is driven by a belt 11 to rotate a screw 9. The rotation is transmitted to the other screw 9 as well from a gear 13 via a belt 15 to move the cooled mold 5 in the casting direction along the orifice plate 3, thereby increasing the effective length (a) of the mold 5. Continuous casting is then started while cooling water is ejected from a cooling water nozzle 17. The screw 9 is rotated backward to return the mold 5 to decrease the effective length to an optimum length when the various conditions for casting are stabilized upon lapse of the prescribed time. The continuous casting is then continued.
